The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania is a full service organization that continuously provides access and opportunity to over 500 African American business owners and professionals. Additionally, the Chamber’s membership includes other minority groups, over 60 non-profit organizations, and over 50 majority businesses. Their boundaries extend from Cambria County, up to Erie, PA over to the Ohio border, and down to West Virginia.

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh focuses on serving African-Americans and other minorities, but no one is ever turned away, helping more than 20,000 individuals in Pittsburgh and the surrounding counties last year alone. As the largest comprehensive social service/civil rights organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Urban League helps others to help themselves through extra-curricular educational opportunities, health advocacy, housing counseling, parental education and support for early childhood and youth development, hunger prevention services, sustainable wage career preparation, and other programs that lead to improved ability to achieve economic empowerment and self-reliance.

A few things that P4W is doing in relations to the pandemic:
P4W Board of Directors agreed to lead a coalition with broad-based representation to lead and execute a recovery plan for the region’s businesses and workers.
P4W has stated convening a small group of business, labor, philanthropy, education, and economic development leaders to develop the blueprint, prioritize action steps, and outline a strategy to lead the region through the crisis and beyond. This is a first step in mobilizing leadership, resources, and action across the city and county to respond immediately and in the long-term for the region to emerge stronger than before. In addition, P4W and its partners in PA CareerLink Allegheny County are striving to bring more flexibility and innovation to the workforce system.
